URBAN RENEWAL AGENCY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
JUNE 10, 2013

The meeting convened at 6:05 p.m. with Chair Figley presiding.

CONSENT AGENDA
A. Urban Renewal Agency minutes of May 13, 2013.
McCallum/Lonergan... adopt the Consent Agenda. The motion passed unanimously.
Former Economic and Development Manager Matt Craigie provided a presentation on
potential Urban Renewal projects. After the presentation members of the community
were invited to come to the podium and provide their ideas on how the Urban Renewal
funds should be spent. Kay McEwen, 54 Smith, stated that she would like to see a Youth
Activity Center and pedestrian mall with artwork going down the alley on Garfield St.
Bruce Thomas stated that he is in favor of First Street improvements. Nicki Debuse,1086
Wilson St., and James Frackowiak, 550 N. First Street concurred with Bruce Thomas.
Durrell Crays, stated that he thinks First Street needs to be improved but would like the
Urban Renewal funds to not be spent. Bertha Gomez stated that she would like to see a
bubbler fountain. Community Relations Officer Stowers read a letter from Socorro
Villarreal which stated that he is in favor of having a public restroom, better lighting and
parking meters downtown. Jaime Arredondo, from the Capaces Institute is in favor of
the First Street improvements and a secondary choice would be the Pix Theater. Colin
Brown, Woodland Ave, supports something for the youth and not developing buildings
but selling them. During discussion Member Cox stated that deciding what to do with the
Association Building should be a priority but he does not see it getting completed this
year and he would prefer not to spend the money on any of the projects at this point.
Member McCallum added that he would like to see a community center. Member

Lonergan stated that he is in support of renovating First Street. Chair Figley added that
her top priorities would be to honor the City's obligation to the Fire District, then in
getting the Association Building into a condition were it can be leased out or sold and
then looking at a design for First Street. City Administrator Derickson stated that they
will bring back a profile for each project for the Agency to review.
o: 51 PUBLIC HEARING
A. Chair Figley declared the hearing open at 6:57 pm for the purpose of hearing public
input on the Agency's Budget for 2013-14. City Administrator Derickson provided a
staff report. No members of the public wished to speak in either support or opposition of
budget. Chair Figley declared the hearing closed at 6:58 pm.

BUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2013-2014
