11-14-2011 Workshop PresentationCity Council Workshop Meeting City Council 2011/2013 Goals November 14, 2011 Goal - Fiscal Responsibility • The City will strive to return the highest level (or sustain the current levels of services) with the least amount of taxpayer investment and plan accordingly. Fiscal Responsibility Objective Seek Savings and Efficiency Benefit Cost Reduction Hold the line on M &S FTEs Utility Fund Review Continue AC Turnaround Budget Policy Implementation Goal - Economic Development • The City will continue to promote activities designed to attract investment, including but not limited to business attraction and sustainability. As part of this effort, the Council will: I) Acting as the Urban Renewal Agency, the Council will identify and undertake a new project. Goal - Economic Development Development (continued) 2) It is a high priority to get the long- vacant Salud Building put to a use that will benefit the Downtown District and the City as a whole. This may be accomplished through sale or long -term lease of the building. Or through a joint venture between the City and private investors, with any fiscal commitment by the City to be financed with Urban Renewal funds, without significant cost to the City's General Fund. Economic Development Objectives Resolution of the URA's Fire District Project 2008 agreement Remodel the dormitory area of the station and related restroom, bathing, dining and day -room facilities. Improvements are needed to handle overcrowding and staff needs anticipated from new growth and increased activity in the District.
