STAFF MEMORANDUM
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Scott Derickson, City Administrator
Date: November 14, 2011
Subject: City Council Work Session /2011/13 Goals & Objectives
During the City Council's June 6, 2011 Special Meeting, the City Council developed a set of
goals for 2011/13. It was also determined the goal list, while certainly not all inclusive of all of
the City Council's desires for the community, would focus on a reasonable number of goals the
City Council felt were important and could be accomplished within the next twenty -four months.
The Council also decided to hold a quarterly one -hour work session with topics to be selected for
discussion by the Mayor or the City Administrator. At the direction of Mayor Figley, and for the
purposes of presentation and discussion, staff has developed a set of objectives intended to match
the City Council's goals.
There are six Council goals and eighteen objectives. Objectives are a blueprint for achieving
Council goals. They are not intended to be a detailed "strategic plan," but rather a flexible "work
plan" that will guide our efforts in achieving the Council's goals. Objectives are subject to
change and financial uncertainty. Council goals are subject to the direction of the City Council.
Like the goals, the objectives are not prioritized.
